Camping Season Is Back

Camping Season Is Back

Every year there’s a weekend where it suddenly happens again.

You open the garage. The camping gear’s still sitting where you left it last fall. Somebody mentions booking a campsite. The weather’s finally warm enough to sit outside after dinner.

And just like that, camping season starts back up.

Honestly, it always feels good getting outside again after winter. Even if it’s just for one night.

Not some huge trip. Not a complicated setup. Just getting away for a bit.

A cooler in the back of the car. Camp chairs that have seen better days. Coffee early in the morning when the campground’s still quiet.

That kind of stuff.

Most Camping Trips Don’t Need to Be Fancy

People make camping way too complicated sometimes.

You really don’t need half the stuff people pack.

The trips that end up being the most fun are usually the simple ones anyway. Somebody cooks dinner while everyone else stands around talking. Somebody forgets fire starters. Someone always says they’re “just resting their eyes” in the chair and immediately falls asleep.

That’s camping.

And honestly, some of the best parts are the small things you forget about during the rest of the year:

  • Cold air in the morning
  • Coffee tasting weirdly better outside
  • Sitting around after dark with nowhere to be
  • Cooking something simple and eating it straight out of the pot
  • Hearing birds instead of traffic for once

It’s not really about doing anything impressive.

It just feels good to slow down a little.

Good Gear Just Makes Everything Easier

Nobody’s saying you need expensive gear to enjoy camping.

But having gear that actually works makes a huge difference.

A comfortable chair matters way more than people think it does once you’ve been sitting outside for a few hours. Same with a lantern that gives off warm light instead of making the campsite feel like a parking lot.

And good cookware? Definitely worth it.

One-pot meals are basically undefeated when camping. Less cleanup. Less hassle. More time sitting around the fire afterward.

Usually dinner ends up being something simple anyway:

  • Chili
  • Pasta
  • Breakfast skillets
  • Soup when it gets cold at night
  • Coffee first thing in the morning

For some reason, food outdoors always tastes better even when it really shouldn’t.

Go Before the Season Gets Busy

That’s probably the biggest mistake people make every year.

They keep saying they’ll go camping “later.”

Then summer gets busy. Weekends disappear. Campsites get packed.

Next thing you know it’s somehow fall again.

So honestly, don’t overthink it.

Pick a weekend. Pack the basics. Bring people you actually like hanging out with.

The rest usually figures itself out once you get there.

At Overmont, we’ve always believed the best outdoor memories are usually the simplest ones anyway.

A lantern still on after everybody else went to sleep. Coffee in the morning. Sitting quietly for a minute before the day starts.

That’s the stuff people remember.
